2Face Idibia “The Unstoppable”

2Face Idibia, again has proven to be ” The Unstoppable” in his career. His award winning hit track “African Queen” was used as the sound track of the 2006 comedy film, Phat Girlz. This made him even more recognized internationally. He first announced on AfriQtalk on October 28, 2010 that he was ready to take on America. Take a listen to my candid chat with 2Face a.k.a., 2baba.

2Face was recently, nominated for BET AWARDS 2011 Best International Act (Africa). He appeared on the Monique Show and Lola Ogunnaike interviewed him on BET, FM V103.1 radio station, just to mention a few. He is reported to have ongoing projects and collaborations with big name artiste in the U.S. Stay tuned! We’ll keep you posted. Not only is 2Face “the Unstoppable”, I’ll like to refer to him as “The Come Back Kid”. 2Face Idibia BET Awards Celebrations Party will be held Live @ the Valley Nite Club, Saturday, Aug. 6th, 2011. TuFace is currently one of the most popular artistes on the African music scene. 2Face Idibia was born Innocent Ugah Idibia in Jos, Nigeria. He started calling himself “2Face” in 1996. “The name to me just refers to the outside and inside: when you first see me you see the outside but when you get to know me, you see the inside,” he said in an interview with the BBC.

Tuface recently, released two lead off singles from the international version of his Unstoppable album and is the first Nigerian artist to have an appropriately priced international album. He is also reported to have recorded a single with Mary J. Blige.

In 2010 with his Unstoppable Album(The Intl. Edition) won 2 awards at the 2010 SMVA. He also, won the Channel O Most Gifted Western African and the MTV African Music Awards (Best Male and Artist of the year) making him the most successful pop singer in Africa. He is the lead vocalist of the Sony All African 08 Project alongside 7 other stars across Africa recording their first singles with R.Kelly and Prince Lee titled “Hands Across the World”.

Aside from running his own record label known as Hypertek after leaving Kennis Music, the artist has established the Tuface Idibia Foundation, which is into charity. In December 2010, the foundation collaborated with the Hands Project International for an Aids charity dinner. His show held at the expo center was the best of its kind, as it featured all the notable Nigerian artists, particularly 9ice, Dbanj and P-Square. Other awards include:

2Face Idibia has been named a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations’ world food programme, joining other Nigerian icons like Wole Soyinka, John Fashanu etc. who are also working with the UN to fight different causes across the African continent. First non-Liberian to become an honorary member of the Liberian music society in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the growth of music in Africa.

What’s next for this young man? It’s everyone’s guess but what I do know is that 2Face is one artiste that will continue to break the barriers and boundaries with his style of music.

Reality

Life is crazy, and totally unpredictable. It’s going to push you over, kick you while you’re down and hit you when you try to get back up. Not everything can beat you. Things are going to change you, but you get to choose which ones you let change you. Listen to your heart, Follow your dreams, and let no one tell you what you’re capable of.

Push the limits, bend the rules, and enjoy every minute of it. Laugh at everything, live for as long as you can. Love all, but trust none. Believe in yourself, and never lose faith in others. Settle for nothing but only the best, and give 110% in everything you do. Take risks, live on the edge, yet stay safe, and cherish every moment of it.

Life is a gift, appreciate all the rewards, and jump on every opportunity. Not everyone’s going to love you, but who needs them anyways. Challenge everything, and fight for what you believe. Back down to nothing, but give in to the little things in life, After all, that is what makes you.

Forget the unnecessary, but remember everything, bring it with you everywhere you go. Learn something new, and appreciate criticism. Hate nothing, but dislike what you want. Never forget where you came from, and always remember where you are going. Live Life to its fullest, and have a reason for everything, even if it’s totally insane. Find your purpose in life, and live it!

Proud to be African Clothing announces the launch of their first collection. Proud To Be African Clothing was founded in London in December 2010 to showcase the beauty of African design and African clothing. Proud to be African Clothing’s first collection consists of 3 designs on male and female T shirts, unisex hoody’s, children’s T shirts and babies’ bodysuits. The baby’s and children’s clothing is made from 100% organic ethical cotton and fits kids from 0-18 months (for body suits) and 2 to 12 years (T shirts).

Founder, Chidi explained the rationale behind the brand “Whenever one see’s images from Africa in the media the images are generally negative. However, this is a different reality from the Africa that I and others grew up in. Last year I saw a presentation by Chimamanda Adichie to TED on the ‘The Dangers of a single story ‘which covered exactly the same points about the dangers of seeing a situation from only one perspective, so I resolved to put my money where my mouth is and put out a product that carried a positive message of Africa everyone could wear and relate to that gave the other side of the story” The initial summer collection consists of designs from renowned artist and poet, Inua Ellams (www.phaze05.com) and eminent cartoonist, Tayo Fatunla (www.tayofatunla.com).

Inua say’s “When I was asked to design for the project, I searched for a single iconic image to pair with the slogan ‘Proud to be African’. But nothing besides continent worked, confirming my belief that Africa is beyond a single story or concept and its narrative is beyond the sum of its parts”. This viewpoint is reflected in his designs one of which was eventually used as the Proud To Be African logo bringing together impressions of traditional African masks and tribal patterning. His other design is based on the theme ‘Born in the UK, Made in Africa’. “The brief essentially was to capture the reality and emotions that that statement conveys” said Chidi, “it’s essentially the modern diasporan African’s way of rendering to Caesar what is Caesars and to Africa what is Africa’s!”

Tayo’s drawing showed his Nigerian bias and was inspired by iconic images from Nigerian history and culture with a brief to visually represent the slogan ‘Proud To Be African’, in his own words, “Sketching this iconic posture has to date been one of my favourite drawings in its simplicity. The effect around his hands is my interpretation of Black Power”. The garments are priced competitively in order to spread the Proud To Be African message as far as possible and also, move African designs into the realm of urbanwear. The designers and founders hope that the African themed designs will find their niche not just in African fashion, but in ethical, hip hop and casual wear.
